Project Description

I got in touch with David Coleman (who is a passionate alternative music and film writer) the owner of NoRipcord after finding out he was in need of a Drupal theming and graphic designer to upgrade his site and branding. He had some goals to bring a unique layout, brand, and bring in some much needed ad space up top as well.

Branding, Website Layout, and Graphic Design

The branding of the site was redone. Mostly, I gave the brand more graphic juice, as it already had a good direction. The solutions provided overhauled the logo so that it had more interest, felt more modern, and super tasty. A gradient grunge style was applied to both the logo and site layouts.

The green design that Dave chose was the edgiest of the three possible solutions provided. All organized the information with a solid wireframed layout, but the overlaid graphics of this design were a strong mix of bright colors, the look of solid edged vector graphics, mix in with grunge elements, such as paint splatters, patterned backgrounds, and distressed wood paneling.

Creating the Drupal Theme, Content Hieararchy, and Details

Much of the design consisted of creating a unique front page where fans could see the most important categories of new content added to the site. There are unique views for sections like music reviews, film reviews, and featured articles. The order laid out is all based on David's requests asking for certain content to be highlighted most. The home page has no sidebar and utilizes a wide format layout.

I also created an internal page to the theme, which does have a sidebar, and much of the rest of the sites content resides in. Also, numerous details were added to the design, like little film and cd icons, a search icon, and various graphics.

Final Design

The final designs is on the left or you can view the site at NoRipcord.

Druapl Developer Ronny López

I coded the HTML/CSS design and the Drupal theme. We brought in a Druapl developer named Ronny López as well, who is adept with PHP and handled the transfer of the site's database, updated all the content in the new site, as we moved from Drupal 4 over to Druapl 5. He also helped out with coding some of the front page views on the site as well.

Other Solutions

There were two logo solutions presented to the client. The green version of the logo on the left was the final chosen. Below is the one not chosen. Often multiple concepts are reviewed by a client before a the final brand design is chosen.
